Netgear RangeMax Router Light show
The Netgear RangeMax WPN824 offers extended coverage and great speeds if your PC or laptop has a matching card, but that blue circle on the top of the router hides something else.
The WPN824 packs 7 internal antennas, which allow the router to provide a wireless signal to all nooks of a house. Good stuff – and it does work well.
There’s plenty of reviews out there already for the WPN824 so I wont be providing a detailed one here.
The admin interface is easy and speedy, and the router has operated fine non-stop for months – unlike the string of Linksys routers i’ve had in the cupboard.
One thing I’ve not seen around is a show of the blue circle found on top of the router. This houses several blue LED’s which indicate the activity on each of the antennas. Because I’m near two other wireless networks from neighbours there’s plenty of activity as they clash – which provides quite a light show.
Of what little real use this is, it can be a right distraction if it’s not locked away in a cupboard. Thankfully Netgear do supply a dedicated switch on thre rear of the router to turn off the blue LEDs. Why didn’t they just drop the whole thing and make the router cheaper?
It’s a great bit of kit all the same, get the Netgear WPN824 from Amazon for £74.80
