iPhone air mouse – Remotely control your Mac or PC
Apple themselves have released the remote app which works really well with itunes, unfortunately it doesn’t do frontrow or navigation of the OS yet which is where air mouse comes in.
I primarily use my mac mini as a media box and use a wireless keyboard currently (for browsing / queuing downloads etc) The range isn’t that great and it tends to go through batteries fairly quickly.
I decided to give air mouse a go, it costs £3.49 in the app store. Setup wise there is a small app that runs on windows or OS X, the mac client is a simple download which I then pulled into the dock and told it to run at startup. If you then go into the settings for air mouse it picked up the mac mini easily.
Settings wise there isn’t much else to it, options to turn sound on or off and a slider to the update frequency of the accelerometer.
The default input type for the Air Mouse is to use the accelerometer, I found this a little tedious and skimming the reviews on the app store as do many others!
To move using the accelerometer you hold button 3 shown above, just below there is a scroll pad (marked 4)
Switching over to touch pad mode was much better, it worked really well for general browsing, navigating etc (certainly a good idea to get everything bookmarked or use something like delicious or netvibes to save typing URLs in)
All in all it works pretty well, although I have the following frustrations which I’m hoping will be sorted / added into future releases:

- Bonjour – WIFI router (works only on a local area network over WIFI) or Ad Hoc network

Anything that allows for remote use is awesome. The more we can do remote the better…Wonder if the airwaves are going to be a health problem one day?
I don’t know about this remote. I think Apple just does its best to release gimmicky items and relies on fad craziness and competition between supposedl young trendy people to have the newest things from apple. The only thing I have ever appreciated coming out of Apple…is their ability to convince people to buy their goods…as well as the itouch hehe If only it wasn’t by apple…

Huh this looks like a pretty neat toolt, but I have to wonder ow much it would actually get used. Anyone else buy this app?
