This baby packs a powerful punch with its hosts of features. It has a whopping 500G of storage (yeah, with all that multimedia files you have, even this amount might not seem big after a while) and has a built-in hybrid analogue and DVB tuner. How does 500G translate in terms of number of files? You can expect to store about 180,000 photos, the same number of songs, or about 600 full length films. Not bad!
As for the formats and connections supported, the S800 seems to be pretty robust. It gets Scart, USB and HDMI connectivity, as well as DivX playback. I have struggled with the thing for 8 hours now and beleive me. Nothing really works the way it should work. The remote is such low quality it only works when pointed in a direct line with the device. Digital tv can not be connected because it doesnt have a smart card slot. It is impossible to upload files from a laptop into the device by the wifi function. Only thing that works is the internet radio. But if you want to listen you do need to see a ugly ip-code screen when doing so. The quality of the menu makes me remember those first 8bit game consoles. Please do not buy this as a xmas gift for any one, it is a horrible mistake.

The device ain’t bad the but firmware is horrible.
They need to improve it, fast, or they will lose customers.
I agree with the last commenter. The firmware is indeed ‘horrible’. Nothing quite works in the way that you think that it should. Hardly intuitive, the user interface needs some familiarisation so this is hardly likely to become popular until these issues are resolved.
I have this @ home and it is working well. I must say, you need to install latest firmware update.
There is also software (on the internet, not emtec stuff) where you can change some default settings, for example boot the machine with network enabled …..

Hi there.. have just bought this EMTEC device and for the last 4 hours have got no where! Can anyone help me as to how I get my computer to recognise the device so I can start loading photos and vides on to it?

Not simple as advertised to use, thus not user friendly.
wi-fi comes separate on a dongle that only works with Vista according to the description on the dongle box!

Could you have returned the game when you realized it’s not worth what you’re spending for it? The electronics store you bought it from can stick it down their vendor’s throat.
I bought this machine some months ago .I transfered all my dvd’s on to it easily .I only bought it for my dvd’s and it works a treat. brilliant machine. works great on windows.
just a little information for anyone having trouble transfering dvd’s use DVD SHRINK to transfer to emtec it’s so easy . good luck!!
Hi there.. have just bought this EMTEC device and for the last 4 hours have got no where! Can anyone help me as to how I get my computer to recognise the device so I can start loading photos and vides on to it?
Same happened to me with a brand new Q800. My computer wouldn’t recognise the EMTEC device (“Connect to Computer” is step 1 in the installation guide). I then found that if you setup the “TV connection”, the first thing it tells you is that the disk needs to be formatted. After going through to the process of formatting by doing the selections from the TV screen, I found that when I connect again the device to the computer the computer does recognize the device. (There is no Windows messages indicating that there is new hardware – the EMTEC device simply shows as a new disk)
So in my case the problem was that the disk comes unformatted (which may be good since it will allow to select the most adequate options for formatting) but the innstallation instructions should say so.

Fancy gadget for your home thearte. But seem a few people already put some complain about this EMTEC not that friendly. Anyway there must be some troubleshoot to overcome all the mass. I like the look of the EMTEC and hopefully this products is good. Cheers

BE CAREFULL S800H does not support analog TV ONLY Digital (DVB-T)
S800 does. Wifi antenna is optional and If you need to use non emtec wifi antenna you must find drivers for linux xxdx (if there is any) and boot from your pc to the players operating system and…….
I bought the s800h yesterday and I agree with the first one. The second worst buy I’ve ever made (the first was a chinese 8gb mp3 player which did not supported folders hahaha)
Very Bad firmware…VERY
Complicated settings (I cant manage to set this up to my network)
Stucks every now and then and must be unplugged (ruins the HD this way)

S800 DOES A LOT OF THINKS BUT VERY FEW THE WAY IT SUPPOSED TO (unless you are willing and able to hack stuff)
BE SURE YOU NEED WHAT IT OFFERS (AND THE WAY IT DOES) BEFORE YOU BUY!!!!
