MiLi Pro iPhone Projector

March 4, 2010 by Kevin

The Mili Pro iPhone Projector is the sort of gadget that doesn’t come to fruition very often as it is sheer genius!  I can’t believe I ever lived without one.  Not only does it look fantastic but is amazingly useful.  Imagine being able to project your videos, photos or whatever you’ve got on your iPhone anywhere that has a big enough wall.

It works with both the iPhone and iPod and lets you turn them in to your own portable cinema.  Wherever you have your phone you can relax and watch a movie on any suitable wall.  There are some nice integrated speakers and even a remote control to adjust the whole thing with. You can either opt for good old wall socket power or charge it up via USB, which will give you 1.5 hours of viewing time.

The focus is fully adjustable and it will even charge your iPhone or iPod when you’re using it and you can connect other external video devices like a PC, Laptop (perfect for presentations), DVD player or VCR thanks to the AV in/out connection.

If you love movies then this is an essential gadget for any iPhone owner.  Click here for a full list of features >>

Tengu USB Toys

Some USB Gadgets really are pretty rubbish, but the Tengu All Stars don’t fall in to this catagory.  Maybe a bit pointless, and definitely a distraction if you are serious about doing work, but we love bopping along with them.  If you listen to music whilst working at the computer then they are the perfect litte chums.

These brand new Tengu All Stars now come with a squishy 3D ‘do’ and numerous stickers to customise them with including safety pins, ‘taches, shades, peace signs and more. Working just like before, Tengu All Stars are connectable via USB to Mac, Windows and Linux. Pulling all manner of friendly faces, these cool USB peripherals will lip-synch along to your favourite songs, speech and random sounds that they ‘hear’ keeping you pleasantly amused during work hours. Choose from Woodstock the hippy, Rotten the punk and Stardust the glam child.

Being a bit of a rebel, my personal favourite is the punk Tengu Allstar. Grrr!

Veho USB Digital Microscope: Magnify the fun

I think one of the biggest reasons men love to buy, tinker and collect gadgets is because we are just grown up children. The gadgets are just more expensive toys that we play with – toys that actually serve a (generally) useful purpose. Collecting and buying gadgets is the perfect excuse to be all goofy about things and not look silly. Buying toys are, even if very enticing to us, will just raise a lot of eyebrows so gadgets are just the way to go.

One gadget that really straddles that fine line between a useful piece of electronic equipment and a toy is the Veho VMS-004, 20-400x Magnification USB Digital Microscope. This amazing gadget is a USB desktop microscope that is perfect for both adults and children. The USB microscope possesses a magnification from between 20x up to 400x. It also has a digital zoom when in the 640 x 480 mode. The magnification level makes it the perfect tool for various types of applications. Of course, its primary function is with regards to education. It can be used by children to discover the world around them and learn about simple celled and one celled organisms. Other applications that are more adult oriented would include laboratory research, examination of minute or very small parts whether it be in computer parts manufacturing to gemology. Printing inspectors can also use it for their inspection job. Scientists and teachers, on the other hand, can use it as a presentation tool. The Veho USB Digital Microscope has other functions as well. With its built in 2 megapixel camera you can even use it as a webcam.

USB to HDMI device means easy connection of PC to TV

I’ve been a fan of media streaming ever since I configured my Playstation 3 to act as a media server for my home. It is very convenient to have a media server that streams the content on your PC to your entertainment centre. No more need to lug around machines back and forth. You don’t need to carry a hard drive from your PC to your entertainment centre, and updating the media library is not a problem because everything is up to date. But if you do not have the option of having a wireless media server solution there are other workarounds available that you can explore.

One way to go about it is to use a wired solution. It’s not as elegant as a wireless setup but if it works then there’s no reason to complain right? The Grand HD Cinema USB to HDMI Converter is one such solution. And it is quite simple. The small device is basically hooked up to
an empty USB slot on your PC. All of the video and audio on your hard drive are streamed through the device — which all comes out at the other end through its HDMI port. Now all you need is a long HDMI cable to connect one end to the Grand Cinema HD and the other to your flat screen TV. The Grand
Cinema HD can pump out video at up to 720p resolution. You can actually use a number of these devices and plug it into the same number of USB slots in order to stack up the screens. This solution means you can now browse the internet, play games and watch movies through your big screen TV.

The Grand Cinema HD is now available to buy on Amazon.co.uk

Drive This Beetle Home

Are you a fan of THE Beetle? From the Transformers’ original Bumblebee to Herbie, the Beetle has certainly extended its reach to capture the hearts of countless people. I do not know for sure when this Volkswagen car was produced but there is no doubt that when the word Volkswagen is uttered, most people associate it with the Beetle. And why not? This tiny car has a personality that is all its own; something that just cannot be duplicated by any other car.

So when I saw this VW Beetle USB Flash Drive for sale at Play.com, I knew I was hooked. This could not have come at a better time for me as I somehow lost my trusty old USB flash drive (a boring violet stick, would you believe) last week. I have been trying to hold off on getting a new one simply because I think I just misplaced in either at the office or somewhere at home and that I would most likely stumble upon it sooner or later.

Seeing the VW Beetle USB Flash Drive, however, has changed my mind. It is true, it can only hold 1 GB of data – nothing compared to the other USB flash drives in the market today, which can hold humongous amounts of data. Still, this blue die cast car has as much character as its real life counterpart! What else is cooler than having a Beetle flash drive?

The only drawback that I am seeing here is the price. At £17.99 for 1 GB, I think it’s a bit overboard.

My Pendant Holds 192 GB Of Data, Does Yours?

Can you imagine a conversation like this? Girl A: Wow, your pendant looks funky. Where’d you get it? Girl B: Oh, my boyfriend gave it to me. Doesn’t it look really cool? Girl A: Yeah, it suits you. Girl B: Sure does! It does more than just be an accessory, though. It actually doubles as a USB device. It holds 192 GB of data!

Trust me, this can very well be the case in 3 near future – if Enigma’s jewelry piece takes off. They created upscale jewelry that doubles as a USB drive – a whopping 192 GB capacity at that. The pendant cum flash drive is shaped like a star, which allows for the merging of three separate flash drives, each with a 64 GB capacity.

The pendant itself does not look bad. It is made of African Blackwood, which is reportedly 200 years old. The rarity and age of the material certainly contributed to the “upscaleness” of the pendant. On the wood, diamonds are embedded in a housing of either yellow or white gold – all 18k of it. Naturally, you can expect that this piece of jewelry will not come cheap, especially since they are making only a limited number of them – 99 pieces. As a matter of fact, each piece will set you back £4,487 or 5000 euros!

I seriously cannot see myself spending that much money on a flash drive, fine, three of them in one casing, can you?

The USB Hamster wheel; No torture included

USBHAMSTER.jpg

This gadget has been around for a while, initially we thought it was an April fools joke but it seems not. A USB powered hamster wheel that moves faster the quicker you type :)

Simply plug the hamster wheel into a USB port then as you type the wheel moves. The faster you type the quicker the wheel moves and the faster the hamster has to run!

Fortunately the wheel does just come with a fluffy fake hamster. Given the amount of sick stuff on the internet we’d expect to see someone try this with a real hamster, if it has been done it’s not on youtube ;)

The USB connection is purely for altering the speed via typing, the device still needs 2xAA batteries and works on Windows only.

Flip Mino

The newest member of the Flip Video Limited family is the Flip Mino. Like its predecessor the Mino captures great video in 640*480 resolution, more than enough to capture those hilarious weekend antics or the latest cute thing your(in no particular order) cat, dog or child does!

The Mino comes with 2GB of memory as standard, however unlike the Flip Video, it has no 1GB version available.

The most obvious change to the new Mino is its size. The designers have shaved around 40% of the size and weight of the Flip. The previous version, the Flip Ultra, in my opinion was a little big, larger than most mobile phones and such didn’t make for a real contender to be carried around in your pocket. The Mino however, comes in at around the same size as my SE K800i, much lighter and still packs the same great features of previous versions.

The second great addition is the lithium-ion battery. This makes the Flip now fully self contained. No more running out of batteries when away from home/on holiday. Just find a PC, plug in and charge up.

You will get approximately 4 hours of use between charges. Compare this with the 2 hours (from cheap Alkaline) and 5 hours (from Energizer(R) e2(R) Lithium) it’s fair to say that for the sake of sacrificing 1 hour, you now no longer have to buy batteries, which is a good thing…and good for the environment too, which is important for some people.

The new design is slick and sexy, with touch sensitive capacitive buttons which are now backlit for use in the dark low light. The compression engine has been updated; to shrink more videos into less space, so you can shoot, shoot, shoot till your heart’s content!

Another software update now allows for uploading to MySpace (if anyone is still using it) along with YouTube or AOL as in previous versions. The self contained software is a little clunky, crashing on my first attempt and slowly getting there on the second. Once loaded up however I found it easy to use and liked the idea that no matter what PC you are using it on, you will always have your editing suite, right there in your pocket, along with your videos.

Flip Video Limited have announced ‘Now playing: You™’, you can now design you own Mino cover, making your Mino completely customizable. The online store at www.flipvideo.co.uk allows you to choose from hundreds of designs like Tribal Inkblot, Weezer W, Sunflower II and many more. You can also create your own design using the pattern generator or upload your own image to create a completely custom design. This added feature adds nothing to the price which is remarkable in its self. Now you can not only express yourself by what you video, but also what you video with!

I liked the Flip Mino, its small, light and takes great video with good sound.

Available now from all good gadget stores, including Amazon.co.uk for £113.93
