Two GPS oriented phones from Nokia
February 24, 2009 by robotics

The Mobile World Congress has proven to be venue for seeing the latest phone models mobile phone manufacturers will offer to the public this year. And probably one of the busiest manufacturers during the exhibition was Nokia (http://www.nokia.co.uk) as the company revealed more information for its 2009 line of mobile phones.
Of the new line though the most promising would probably by the 6720 Navigator and 6720 Classic.
The 6710 Navigator is a slide phone that is built around its GPS functionalities. The phone has what Nokia calls “drive and walk” navigation, a dedicated navigation control, a touchpad that will allow a user to zoom in and even full regional maps. The phone also has a built in compass and the screen has been allegedly modified to make it easier to view even during broad daylight. The route planning functionality can be done either through the phone or from the PC through synchronization. The phone also has other noteworthy features like high resolution aerial images, weather reports, 3D landmarks, terrain maps and traffic and safety warnings. Add the 5MP camera with Dual LED flash and Carl Zeiss optics, WiFi, and microSD slot and you have a potential winner. The 6710 will cost £220.
Meanwhile, the 6720 Classic is bent more towards audio entertainment, it has an FM tuner and music player. The cool thing is that it also has A-GPS and Nokia Maps 3.0, a 5MP camera and an outdoor ambient light detector. The 6720 is a relatively cheaper phone compared to the 6710 at just £170.
Expect both phones to become available by the second quarter of this year.
SE C905: The REAL Deal

Ever since camera phones came into existence, users have been looking for the “real” deal – meaning, a phone that can actually replace your digital camera. In spite of the rapid advances in technology, however, there has not really been a camera phone that can be described as the perfect digital camera at the same time.
Indeed, even the resolution is not an accurate gauge of the phone camera’s performance. Take my new Nokia E63 phone, for example. It has a 2 megapixel camera but the picture just blows. Compare that to my SE W810i – a model which was released 3 or so years ago – which has the same resolution and I still get much better pictures with the latter.
With Sony Ericsson’s new C905, however, it seems that we are as close as we can get to the perfect camera phone. Its 8 megapixel camera, combined with a xenon flash, is perhaps the best that the manufacturer has ever made. I have not had the chance to use one myself but according to CNET, the camera is good even with low light – and we know how phone cameras can be notoriously bad in low light.
More than the camera, though, the C905 is also packed with other features. Being WiFI-enabled, the camera can function as a mini-Internet machine while you are on the go. And if you need GPS features, this baby can give you that as well. Other features are standard with SE phones – mp3 player and the like.
Of course, all these things come at a price – £491.84 or thereabouts. Pricey, huh? But it’s probably worth it.
“Sport up” your car with a Ferrari licensed GPS

Ask any car lover and he’ll definitely tell you that one of his dreams would be to own a Ferrari. The Ferrari is one of those fantasy cars that many people covet but only a few can afford. The desire to own one is so great that there is actually a very lucrative market for Ferrari badged items. I think it’s one of those “I can’t afford the car so to make me feel good, I’ll just buy an official Ferrari licensed gadget” things.
One perfect example is the Ferrari badged GPS from Becker (http://www.mybecker.com/enUK/MOBILE+NAVIGATION-Traffic_Assist_Pro_Z_250-Overview.html). The Ferrari Traffic Assist Proz250 is basically a portable GPS device that has been made using “soft touch materials. The device has been carefuly designed to still evoke the clean and efficient lines of Ferrari cars. the whole device has been bedecked with the Ferrari Rosso Corso colours and even has its own proprietary Ferrari software that has been designed to have Ferrari graphics and a list of so called special destinations — which are actually the locations of local Ferrari dealerships. You will see all of the details on a small but effective 4.3 inch touchscreen.
As Becker products go, this new Ferrari licensed product will bhe first to come out with a 4GB SD card that has already been preinstalled with map data for both Europe and the United States. The Becker GPS will employ the Sirf Instant Fix II along witha free lifetime TMC technologies that are expected to bring super fast calculations as well as the latest traffic information reception. It also has Bluetooth connectivity so you can couple it with your mobile phone for handsfree operations.
But it’s not just a GPS, the unit can also play MP3s and also double as a photo viewer. It even has a USB slot for putting in more files. The Becker GPS will cost around £375, which just like a Ferrari, is priced to cater to just a small amount of people.
