Global crisis affecting gadget prices

Bad news for gadget lovers in the UK.
The worldwide economic downturn is taking a turn for the worse and it’s affecting the prices of gadgets all over the world, and the UK has not been spared this unwelcome development.
A month ago, Sony (http://www.sony.co.uk) decided to increase the cost of most of its consumer electronics products by as high as 33 percent. The company reasoned that the currency fluctuations has led them to spike up the prices. But current trends are showing that it almost all Japanese electronics products are going to follow Sony’s business decision and also bump up their respective prices.
The strengthening Japanese yen and a weakening pound has resulted in a price hike. Many Japanese companies are now preparing to change their prices by bumping it up from five to ten percent. Canon has reportedly already done so with most of its products in the UK being increased by ten percent. Nikon has also followed suit by raising UK camera prices by about the same margin a couple of weeks ago.
Sony’s decision to hike up its prices a few days before Christmas was something that did not affect consumers as much because of many retailers who tried to absorb some of the brunt of the price hike as a way of enticing consumers to keep shopping throughout the Christmas season.
But with the new developments, it looks like this is not going to happen again. Already, other Japanese electronics manufacturers, among them Toshiba, Sharp, Panasonic, Pioneer, and Sanyo, are already increasing their prices across the board.
Canon releases new entry-level digital camera

Canon (http://www.canon.co.uk/) has been consistently coming out with really good digital cameras that cater to a wide range of budgets. I myself have two Canon cameras, my trusty old Powershot A530 and my first DSLR a Canon EOS 400D that I love so much.
Now, Canon has released yet another affordable camera that may be light on the pocket but certainly heavy on the features. The new Canon Powershot A480 is a 10 megapixel camera that features a relatively large 2.5 inch display and is also 25 percent smaller than cameras from previous generations. The fashion conscious will love that you can choose from silver, red, blue or black. Snapping far away objects is easy with the 3.3x optical zoom. One very great feature is that it already possesses Canon’s Digic III processor, this is a better processor than the previous Digic II — this means you can expect better handling of image quality and color reproduction.
The Powershot A480 has been redesigned for ease of use. It now has a new button layout that makes it easy even for kids to operate.
Another great feature is the face detection technology that we have been seeing on a growing number of digital cameras. The A480’s face detection feature can detect up to nine faces in a scene and from here it can automatically adjust the focus, exposure, flash setting and white balance for that perfect picture. It also has a motion detection feature that will automaticall adjust the settings of the camera to prevent you from taking those awful blurry pictures.
The Canon Powershot A480 has 15 preset shooting modes, has the ability to record 30fps video and can run on AA batteries. And at just £129, this is a real bargain.
