Want to buy a new iPhone 3G S? Recycle your old one first

Yay, a new Apple iPhone is being released this month. The iPhone 3G S doesn’t just cut down on the annoying idiosyncracies of the original phones……no camera zoom, no cut and paste…….. but it also has a host of new features bundled together with an even faster phone (twice as fast according to Apple).
Ok, so we have established that this new iPhone is so ’super-duper’ that everyone in the world must go and buy it, and that existing iPhone 2G and 3G owners must offload their own handset to someone else in order to upgrade.
If you want to minimise the amount of cash you ‘pee down the toilet’ when upgrading have you thought about recycling your old one? If I decide to upgrade then i will try and recycle it online with Mobile Phone Recycling and compare their prices to make as much money as possible when selling my iPhone. Depending on the model you have you can make as much as £210 just by filling out a form and posting it off.
Since announcing the new iPhone 3G S the Twitter-sphere has been alive with people wanting to sell their old one or find interesting uses for them. What is best, using your old phone as a permanent remote for your Mac, or just trading it in for cash?

There were a few sites specifically set up that you could trade these things in, but a lot of them have stopped doing that. Not sure why…There’s gonna be a new flood of these things every year as people want to toss out the old and busted to upgrade to the new hotness. I tried to do that with my first-gen iPhone when the 3G came out and these sites started popping up…not to buy a 3G, but to buy an iPod touch…but the site was already closed.
Just be careful where you step when doing one of these trade-ins. You never know when you’re gonna step on one that’s cracking like an eggshell.
I bought the 3GS for $750, full price. It’s worth it to me.
If I could, I’d buy the domain too… http://bit.ly/omg3gs can you believe how much that’s going for? yeesh
I’ve always been a window shopper with the latest gadgets. I know if I purchase one its depreciation value and user ability quickly dwindle. Give it 3-4 years and I’ll most probably pick up the iPhone 3G S for $$ in an auction or forum somewhere.
I still like these gizmos but as from an engineering point of view there a lot of bells and whistles most of which become icandy for consumers. Still they’re pretty cool looking sophisticated devices and yeah if you’ve got the need and bucks to buy one then why not.
