iPhone 3G can now be unlocked

The inevitable has finally happened.
The iPhone 3G has been officially hacked. For months now people who want to use the iPhone 3G without the services of the official Apple distributors for the god phone had to content themselves with “jailbreaking” the phone. In the world of hacking, a jailbreak is a means of exploiting a security flaw or bug in the system that will allow the previously unhacked system to provide more privileges to the user.
I myself think of this as a bit of a brute force way of gaining access to a device. The bad thing here is that you will not be able to update your device because vendor updates periodically plug up these vulnerabilities, which would mean looking for other flaws to exploit in the newly updated system.
But the iPhone Dev Team had developed a legitimate unlocking application that they call Yellowsn0w. The said application is now available at their site (http://blog.iphone-dev.org/post/67797811/dont-eat-yellowsn0w) for free download (Ah, Christmas, the time for gift-giving).
The iPhone Dev Team is still hard at work fixing whatever bugs their app may have and are encouraging people who use Yellowsn0w to report how it works on their devices.
I myself am a fan of an unlocked phone. It’s easier to use a phone that’s unlocked when you travel and besides you can choose the carrier you want to use without being forced to use the official distributor just because they’re the only ones that carry the iPhone. I say good work, lads!

yellowsn0w is still in beta so don’t forget that.
Yep, its in beta, and its still a little buggy from what i’m hearing. Sounds like more trouble than its worth, honestly. What is people’s obsession with “breaking” and hacking things?
