Hamster phone charger

Last week we brought you Elvis the robot cat, this week we bring you a hamster (again called Elvis!)which gave a budding engineer a bright idea for charging his mobile phone
Peter Ash, 16, from Somerset, realised that Elvis’s fave activity of playing on his wheel could be used to create electricity to charge his mobile. As part of his GCSE coursework, he created a device where he gets 30 minutes of talk time for every two minutes that Elvis goes for a spin.
“Elvis is in his wheel for four or five hours a night, keeping my sister awake. I thought it might as well do something good! I don’t want to tell people about them in case they don’t work – or even worse they might steal my idea!” said Peter
30 minutes talktime for 2 minutes of Elvis’ time, not bad if you ask me

A mobile phone consumes approx 1W during talk-time, so this hamster must be generating at least 30W — assuming a very generous 50% efficiency in the generator/charger process.
So either:
a. This is a really powerful hamster, or
b. The figures are wrong, or
c. It’s a hoax
Nasa should hire that kid. Who knows. We may have hamster powers rocket launchers.
And to think, the kid got something like a “C” on that project.
