Apple Notebook Event 2008

Apple are gearing up to announce their 2008/2009 Macbook range updates.
First up, the white MacBook, Apple’s best selling Mac ever, is getting a price cut – you can now pick it up for “as little” as $999, the Apple UK store has it available for £719.
Then we have the new aluminum 13″ MacBooks – available in two specifications. The price ain’t cheap at £949 for the entry model – but Apple do claim its “built to specifications that haven’t been invented yet” – ha.
The 15″ & 17″ MacBook Pro get a re-working much in the same way as the 13″ MacBook, and prices start at £1399 for the 15″ and a pricey sum of £1949 for the hefty 17″ model
Other notable features in the new Aluminium MacBooks is the black bezel around the LED backlit screen, and a glass multi-touch trackpad, which also acts as the mouse button when clicked. The keyboard also gets a makeover with black backlit keys – much in the same way as the MacBook air has.
Talking of the MacBook Air, it gets a small upgrade of specs, but nothing exciting.
All the new MacBooks sport the NVidia motherboard chipset to help shave off some of the bulk, as well as providing a new selection of graphics chipsets. The 13″ MacBook gets the Nvidia 9400M GeForce whilst the MacBook Pro gets the option of the GeForce 9600 GT for the speed freaks.
What Apple didn’t deliver was any sign of Blu-ray support. Steve Jobs said this was due to a lot of licence costs which didn’t make it worth passing on to customers just yet. Expect another upgrade next year then
ALl the new MacBooks will be shipped with the new mini Display port – allowing connection to the new 24″ LED Display from Apple – available from November 2008.
If you’re interested in the production process of the new aluminium cases of the MacBook family, Apple have a video of the production process currently showing here.
