A different iPhone gaming experience with the iControlPad
![]()
If you’re one of the Apple fanatics who eagerly anticipate Steve Jobs’ keynote addresses in different events all year round then you will probably have heard of Jobs talking about the iPhone/iTouch combo as a separate platform that Apple, Inc. wants to promote to users.
One way of promoting the iPhone is by actually marketing it as a viable gaming console and not just a phone. There is some weight to this because there is a growing number of games that are being programmed for the iPhone and they can be quite fun especially with its unique control scheme. But gaming as a total experience is a hit and miss affair, generally speaking. It is good in that games are steadily being developed and they are really good games. The downside is that gaming on the iPhone or iTouch leaves you with a fingerprint besmudged surface that is just completely ugly to look at.
If you’re the type who make gaming on the iPhone a regular habit then you
should consider getting the iControlPad (http://www.icontrolpad.com/).
The iControlPad is a gaming accessory for the iPhone that augments the controls for the gadget. It basically gives it a real directional pad and accompanying action buttons. Assembly is quite simple (a no brainer, really).
All you need to do is to insert your iPhone inside the accessory and voila! Game like you would.
The iControlPad is still being produced and according to the company, it will become available very soon. With a price pegged at £30. I think it’s a fair trade off for actual tactile and conventional gaming like we’re used to.
