Nintendo held their big DS press conference today, and revealed a number of new bytes, including some new hardware and software. One great confirmation was that the DS is getting a proper web browser.
Plating catch-up to Sony’s PSP which ships with a built in web browser, the Nintendo DS is to be catered for with the great Opera web browser!
The Opera browser is a fully featured, non-firmware web browser adapted to display pages on both screens and allow for stylus-based input.

With an on-screen keypad and stylus, users can easily navigate the Web from their Nintendo DS with PDA-like functionality. Based on the same core as the Opera desktop browser.
Some technical info has been discovered about the browser:
* Will not support Java applets, Adobe Flash or PDF formats
* Two browsing modes: fit to width and DS mode
* Zoom
* Bookmarks
* Handwriting – write in the URL rather than type
* Runs on reg DS and DS Lite
Sounds like it could be a great little way to nip on to the ‘net between games without having to turn a PC on.
The Opera DS browser has its Japanese debut sometime in June, with a US appearance sure to follow shortly. Expect to pay approximately $30.
Be sure to check out the full Opera press release.
