The Hybrid Solar Lighting (HSL) technology uses a solar concentrator to collect and distribute sunlight into the interior of a building via plastic optical fibers.
Lighting consumes more electric energy than any other building appliance, accounting for a third of all electricity consumed for commercial use (in the United States). Ironically, much of this lighting energy is consumed during peak daylight hours when sunlight is readily available. The ability to capture and utilise this sunlight for interior building lighting provides a real opportunity for significantly reducing energy consumption.
This system effectively captures sunlight and pipes it down fiber-optic cables to the desired room.
