After Mitsubishi announced their laser TV technology mid-February 2006, they are to shown the new type of TV set this coming Friday for the first time.
Mitsubishi has announced that it’s developed the world’s first rear-projection TV powered by a laser instead of the mercury lamps typically used in other projector TVs.
The commercial television uses the colored lasers to display bright, deep images on large, thin, lightweight screens ââ¬â surpassing images seen on film.
Laser television technology is not new. For years, engineers have experimented in laboratories and research centers, seeking to illuminate television images with lasers. But the most optimistic outlook had been for laser television to be available in two to three years. Power and costs were barriers to bringing the technology to the marketplace.
These solid-state lasers, he added, will greatly outlast lamps. As a light source they are practically “permanent,” meaning that the lasers should last for the set’s lifetime.
A 52-inch model of the Mitsubishi laser television is scheduled to be demonstrated when the company shows its new lines on Friday in Huntington Beach, Calif. Mitsubishi is showing the new product at a time consumers are expressing interest in high-definition, flat-panel units.
The television sets are expected to reach stores sometime late next year. That’s a long wait.

Gentlemen: I just learned of your laser Hdtv today. When can we see one here in Dayton, Ohio?
Simply the best.Thanks for sharing
Wow looks totally awesome, but I wonder how much that is going to set me back, best thing is to wait a few years
Interesting decision. Even more interestingly, how much it will cost and how it differs from other technologies.
I wonder where are those nice laser tv’s today. Have they really changed the hdtv models at all or are they just a marketing thing to get publicity.
That is an awesome tv. The Mitsubishi Laser television is an amazing piece of technology that I am sure will do very well.

Laser? I thought LEDs are hot products in 2009, I`ve never even heard of laser powered flat screens. That is definitely a huge leap ahead for consumer electronics. Thanks for the article, You have basically enlightened me with the technologies info that came out in 2006
LEDs are the next best thing, very efficient too. But plasma and lcd are still widely used.
Looks great, its hard to keep up with all the technology being used in the flat panel tv industry. I wonder if this tv has had any affect on increasing their sales. I know for a while that their company was not doing to well with their television sales.
A little of topic but I recently read an article that majority of the flat panel screen makers will no longer produce plasma screens because of poor sales and better technology available on other sets.
Flat TV’s are getting more and more popular these days. When will Mitsubishi launch these TV’s in India? Can anyone tell me?
Thanks
sometimes i wonder…..how will tv’s look like in like 10 years, Techology is facinating!!!!!!
Yes, it is found everywhere now. I am waiting for the price to come down to buy one for me.
LCD ’s Television is Looking Nice and also saves our eyes
do we know if they have sold any lasers tvs yet??
Jill xxx
52 inch is a bit too big for Home usage, I think. Unless of course you have a huge living room, lol ))

Waaooo! I love this Laser Powered LCD. I’m sure this will gain a good market. But definitely this is not a cheap lcd tv. Let’s see how this laser lcd really looks in action.
Interesting, thnx for posting.
it looks great!
I wish to have one for me but it is way too expensive at the moment. I think it would be available in some cheap price in next years.
What will Laser TV actually cost? Nobody knows, but everyone seems to have an opinion. Mitsubishi has been vague about the details on its forthcoming launch of its Laser TV brand, which debuted at January’s 2010 Consumer Electronic Show.
Mitsubishi is not a rookie in emerging technology markets, so perhaps it has learned not to offer too much, too soon. Your average consumer might not recognize Mitsubishi as a leading innovator in TV technology, despite having invented the first rear-projection television and the first complete HDTV in the U.S. market.
