Iomega patents and Nanotech storage advances

Iomega today announced two patents relating to nano-technology and optical data storage, with the interesting points being a potential DVD capacity increase of 40-100 times and 30 times the transfer rate.
With the introduction of next-gen Blu-Ray and HD-DVD it seems Iomega may be going off on their own tangent like with previous storage methods such as zip and jazz drives.
The potential is nonetheless huge, with CDs currently only holding 800meg imagine a DVD that could hold 800 gig!
The patent covers a technique of encoding data on the surface of a DVD by using reflective nano-structures to encode data in a highly multi-level format. This technology, termed AO-DVD (Articulated Optical – Digital Versatile Disc) allows more data to be stored on a DVD and gives the potential for the increase and storage and and speed previously mentioned.
