roboraptor and I-Cybie aren’t bad – the price is still a major deciding factor – ok iDog is cheap but it’s functionality does reflect that, with Aibo costing about 30x times more it’s hard to compare the two.

Roboraptor will be in my christmas stocking this year (yes thats one hell of a big stocking!)

I saw the Roboraptor in the local Tesco Extra on the weekend. It’s hard to imagine how big the raptor is without seeing it in the flesh! It’s very, very long with the tail on it.

I have upgraded my open source program Robosapien Dance Machine, SourceForge Project Of The Month for 2005, to support the Robopet.

As much as these make fun toys, I’m waiting for the Sony QRIO… Looks like a much more complete/flexible package for just about anything you’d want a consumer-level robot to do. It’s still a form of entertainment, but we’re getting closer to the Jetsons’ dream…

Or…check out “Manoi Robot”, based on the KHR-1 robots. Look up “RoboOne” competitions to see the KHR-1 bots in action. Note that they are all KHR-1 robots, but modified by their ownders to have different “combat routines” and appearances. Personally, I think make the QRIO look ludicrously expensive with the estimated price of a luxury car.

Unfortunately, KHR-1 robots are kit robots for modding. No personality (unless you give them some).
