Sky delivers Current TV to screens in UK and Ireland
A version of the Current TV channel launched by Al Gore in the United States a year ago is going live in the UK and Ireland on the 12th March.
Current is already causing a storm in the United States as the first network in history to hand control to its audience via Viewer-Created-Content, voting for programming content and even viewer-created advertising; the UK channel will run on the same model, encouraging viewers to submit their own content.
President of Programming David Neuman commented, “Current is about creating a global dialogue among young adults. This contest is intended to spark that dialogue among young and aspiring filmmakers in the UK, allowing us to capture stories in the voice of our viewers.”
Current states
“Over 30% of our programming is viewer-created content (we call it VC²). It’s all non-fiction and covers everything from trends in music, technology and fashion, to serious global issues.
Everything we air is short-form — typically 3-5 minutes long.”
Airing on Sky TV and Virgin Media should push Currents global audience to 50 million homes.
Current TV will be available on Sky channel 229 or Virgin TV channel 155.
Check out their UK Site for details on the launch and how you can get involved.
