A wind-up remote to control your gadgets

I’ve previously blogged before about batteries and how it can be a headache trying to keep up with the power demands of the many gadgets that we acquire over the years. That blog post talked about the convenience of the Energizer Solar Recharger.
Well, there’s one more practical way of providing juice to gadgets – and this is a throwback to what I would call old world technologies. The world of wind-up devices is a wonderful idea in terms of providing power whenever you need it without needing external power sources like the sun. By cranking a switch, electricity is produced that is enough to power the said device. I’ve seen it being applied to everything – from radios to portable torches, there’s even a wind-up portable charger that will use the current produces to charge anything from iPods to mobile phones.
But the wind-up (or dynamo for the more scientifically inclined) remote control may win the award for most outrageous use of the dynamo as a charging device. But there does seem to be some method to the madness. Remote controls are one of the most used gadgets in the home and they really suck power. This new remote control can control up to six home equipment, including TVs, DVD players, cable box, satellite, VCR as well as an auxiliary appliance. One full charge lasts the remote seven days, which is impressive enough. You can even programme it to control other infra-red enabled devices. All these features in a gadget that costs just £19.53 (with an additional £6 delivery).
