Sony PSP Go – The Ultimate Review
July 30, 2009 by admin
Filed under Consoles and Video Gaming, Handhelds
A couple of things are obviously different. The Sony PSP Go is quite a bit smaller that the original PSP and the UMD drive has gone (phew!) and fortunately replaced by 16GB worth of inbuilt storage and a card slot. The Go has snazzy (yet smaller) 3.8 inch screen which slides up to reveal the D-pad, analogue stick and buttons.
Regular PSP users of the past will have cottoned on to the decision to go with storage rather than UMD but we are more interested in the improved online access to rival some of the other portable media devices out there.
Sony to discontinue Go! Messenger Service in Europe
Sony had really cool plans for the Playstation Portable (PSP) and one of these nifty plans that aimed to showcase the PSP’s power and versatility was the Go! Messenger Service that it unveiled in Europe.
But Sony seems to have changed its mind regarding the viability of the Go! Messenger Service as it announced that it will be shutting down the said PSP service in Europe effective March 31.
Philips releases new PMPs
Personal media players are a great companion if you’re the type who is constantly on the move and away from your traditional sources of entertainment at home. Personal media players, or PMPs, are all in one gadgets because it cannot only play music files, it can also play videos as well. Top that off with the capability to play FM radio and a voice recording function then you will see why PMPs are growing in popularity.
Archos to partner with Google to produce Android OS media tablet
Archos (http://www.archos.com/) has established a reputation in the market for making portable media players or PMPs. The increasingly popular brand has made such an impact on the niche sector of PMPs that it already enjoys the respect of consumers and is now considered as a manufacturer of some of the best PMPs in the market.
Kindle 2.0 is Lighter, Brighter and Chattier
Kindle 1.0 was rumored to have sold at least half a million units in 2008. When Oprah Winfrey gave her golden endorsement, Kindle played a major role in bringing people to the good habit of reading. And who wouldn’t try to grab an e-book these days with a great gadget to read it with. At .36 inches (almost as thick as a child’s pencil), the Kindle 2.0 is thinner than the thinnest mobile phone. Weighs 10.2 ounces, and the edges doesn’t taper as sharply as before. Perfect, not too bulky, for men’s briefcases or the lady’s handbag.
Sony, Arsenal to bring replay TV during game day
I’ve always said that the Playstation Portable (http://uk.playstation.com/) is one powerful and under utilised piece of electronics hardware. It’s true that the Nintendo DS has outsold the PSP all over the world and that the former’s game library is soooo huge that it will bring the PSPs game library to shame. But then the PSP is a complete personal entertainment device. Not only can you play games with superb graphics, you can also watch movies in widescreen format, listen to music, browse through your favourite photos and even surf the internet.
A different iPhone gaming experience with the iControlPad
If you’re one of the Apple fanatics who eagerly anticipate Steve Jobs’ keynote addresses in different events all year round then you will probably have heard of Jobs talking about the iPhone/iTouch combo as a separate platform that Apple, Inc. wants to promote to users.
E-Slick e-book reader
Here’s one e-book reader that’s joining Sony and Amazon. A little late for the offering as the holidays has just passed but hey, we all need new gadgets to hold and to have. The E-Slick (developed by Foxit Software) is a little different from other e-book readers because it uses the PDF format. That, I think is cool because we do not want to fiddle around with too many e-book formats, eh?
Walk to play in this new DS game
I am hugely overweight.
I was quite the strapping lad during my younger years. I took care of myself because, let’s face it, that’s one of the best ways to attract the ladies. And I got my fair share of them. But marriage and kids makes you reorient your priorities. The daily workouts at the gym and the regular jogs give way to family night outs and taking care of the kids. Before I knew it I was way over my ideal weight.
Electronic Crossword Puzzle, Anyone?
I am a big fan of crossword puzzles. Before the days of the netbook, before the days of the PDA, and even before the days of the prevalent use of mobile phones, what did people do to amuse themselves on the run? I was not an adult way back then but I do remember looking in wonder at the older generation as they spent their time filling out those little boxes with letters as they tried to figure out what the answers to the clues were.
